Vertical grinding machines are less commonly seen in manufacturing, however they are a great alternative to horizontal grinders for medium to large sized workpieces. Much like a vertical turret lathe or vertical boring mill, vertical grinding machines orient the workpiece vertically rather than horizontally. This provides an advantage in fixturing and set up as you are not fighting gravity, you are using it to your advantage. In a vertical grinder, the spindle is oriented vertically as well.
There are a few different manufacturers of vertical grinders, however, Bourn & Koch’s MT³ has best in class spindle power and vertical range! With a 30kW spindle motor and a 36″ vertical travel, MT³ is well suited for your toughest applications. MT³ is also a more flexible solution both today and tomorrow. Our innovative “split spindle” design allows for the machine to accept a wide variety of spindle lengths, diameters, and tool connections. This allows for us to tailor the right spindle for the right workpiece, material, and process. MT³ spindles are also built for milling and drilling, making the machine the most versatile vertical grinder available on the market today!
