In 1985, Bourn & Koch, Inc. acquired the machine tool division of Barber-Colman. Since then, we have continued the tradition of manufacturing world-class gear hobbing machines in Rockford, Illinois. Our gear hobbing machines are designed and built just a few short miles from where Barber-Colman once did the same. Our H-Series Gear Hobbing Machines can produce AGMA Class 10 gears. Cutting gears to that level of excellence starts with the precise manufacture and assembly of our machines. Our in-house machining capabilities combined with precision assemblers ensure that every machine we build is well-crafted and designed to last.
Bourn & Koch manufactures our H-Series Hobbers in four sizes from our 25H with a pitch range of 1 module to up to our 600H with a massive 12 module pitch range. Our most popular machine is the 400H, a horizontal gear hobber designed for gears up to 400mm in diameter and up to 70″ long. Both our 100H and 400H are designed to directly replace your Barber-Colman gear hobber. The workspindle bolt pattern is designed to allow for you to reuse your Barber-Colman tooling.
Each machine is CNC-controlled with servo control on precision linear roller ways, hand-scraped bearing surfaces, and accurate ball screws for easily achieving high tolerances. Our conversational HMI guides the operator through the gear hobbing process, reducing specialized training required to run the machine. Designed to cut external spur and helical gears, each H-Series Gear Hobber is a versatile tool crafted by precision machine tool builders with decades of experience.
